Pay Range:

The UMass President’s Office expects to pay within an approximate hiring range between $95,000 - $120,000 for this position. The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.

Primary Work Location:

50 Washington Street, Westborough, MA. Hybrid work schedule.

Job Summary:

The Senior Application Specialist reports to the HCM application manager of the Employee Services Team and will be responsible for the support of business requirement analysis, quality control and risk management for identified applications supporting PeopleSoft Human Resources (HCM).

Responsibilities will include interpreting campus business or vendor requirements and translating these requirements into functional/configuration specifications for the implementation and related application creation, modification or enhancement.  This will contain maintaining and creating operational documentation as it pertains to ongoing support including job aids, test cases, and troubleshooting guides.

Essential Functions:

Primary support for the PeopleSoft Human Resource enterprise system:

  • The position will provide updates to direct manager on new functional deployment, replacement of deployment/retirement within applicable discipline.    
  • Expertise in developing product understanding, solution brokering, knows when to summarize, or dive deeply into details within applicable discipline
  • Project management skills within primary discipline and may include internal/external 3rd party systems
  • Conducts or coordinates user acceptance, performance stress, regression, and integration testing
  • Participates in structured walk-throughs and other activities to review systems and provide training and support
  • Participates directly or indirectly as an individual contributor in primary discipline to provide guidance on application impact within an agreed upon time schedule using allocated resources
  • Project collaboration at all levels including peers, campuses, management, and vendors
  • Responsible for day-to-day activities such as on call duties, case management issues, problem solving, and/or escalation to manager of issues based on knowledge
  • Reduce risks via procedure, using sound data analysis and communications
  • Participate in a rotation in supporting biweekly payroll
  • Support all aspects of the Time & Labor module as a Lead
  • Participate as the Time & Labor lead in yearly HCM upgrade

Other Functions:

  • Business case development working with campus leads.
  • Participate in Staff development & training.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a business office or general HR systems setting with demonstrated progressive experience in developing, enhancing and supporting departmental applications. 
  • 5-7 years’ experience in project life cycle phases is required; analysis and design, testing, data conversion, change management.
  • Proven experience in requirement gathering and analysis.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration, facilitation, and consultative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate thoughtfully and effectively with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders in person, virtually and in writing. 
  • Ability to continuously learn new capabilities and apply innovative ideas and technologies to meet evolving needs.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills within discipline.
  • Exceptional skills in providing quality customer service within discipline.
  • Experience in a Higher Education environment.

Working Conditions:

  • This role will have a hybrid work model with periodic travel to all UMass campuses.
  • Periodic weekend and evening work for system maintenance, upgrades, and project implementations to minimize the impact on the campus business calendar and student administration operations.
  • Participation in an on-call rotation.
