Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Financial Reporting Manager, the Finance Clerk will be a liaison between the University and the Office of the State Comptroller for the state accounting system (MMARS) transactions related to payroll, fringe, and chargeback payments. In addition, this position will assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and reconciliation requirements for the State and to the University campuses.

Essential Functions:

  • Process monthly fringe and bi-weekly payroll calculations and related supporting documents.
  • Process chargeback payments (e.g. payments related to worker’s compensation) and related supporting documents.
  • Prepare and upload journal entries within PeopleSoft.
  • Input data into MMARS.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations between PeopleSoft and MMARS.
  • Facilitate the creation of new vendors within MMARS.
  • Process invoices related to State funding for all campuses.  Perform weekly reconciliation of MMARS cash clearing accounts.
  • Resolve issues regarding MMARS operational and transaction processing which includes accounting, revenue, payees, payments and contracts.
  • Monitor and reconcile other select PeopleSoft activity.
  • Assist with other accounting needs of the department (reconciliation, journal entry, financial reporting) tasks as requested.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Associate degree in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Working experience with Microsoft Excel, Office and Word.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Working knowledge of MMARS, MMARS Warehouse, and PeopleSoft.
  • Financial experience within a large public research higher education institution.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to travel occasionally to all UMass campuses and the Boston central office.
  • Typical office environment.
  • May require occasional hours on nights and weekends.

Additional Details:

Salary commensurate with experience up to $55,000.
