Work type: Staff Part Time
Campus: UMass Lowell
Department: Research & Innovation
Categories: Other Staff Positions, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Technical

General Summary of Position:

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation (VCRI) has obtained funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to build upon the efforts of the Massachusetts Manufacturing Emergency Response Team (MERT) to support small manufacturers and strengthen the regional supply chain.  UMass Lowell is the lead for the partnership, which includes MIT, WPI, MassTech, MassMEP, MassRobotics, FORGE, and AFFOA. The team will be providing market analysis, technical expertise, access to prototyping, workforce development, and expansion of the innovation ecosystem database and network.

The Technical Infographic Designer and Marketing/Communications Specialist will be partially funded by the EDA grant, and the balance of the funding will come from providing similar data visualization and infographics needs for researchers and VCRI.  This work will likely be for large grants (e.g., centers) where the creation of infographics to capture the vision and composition of the proposal can be a significant benefit to the proposal and where similar marketing/communications materials can build the reputation of the group.

A key aspect of the MERT 2.0 project is communicating to the multiple stakeholders – e.g., small businesses, startups, current and potential funders, state and federal partners – to ensure efforts are aligned, leveraged broadly, and expanded in a sustainable manner.  The Technical Infographic Designer and Marketing/Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating materials and supporting efforts related to these communication needs for the EDA project. The balance of the role will be supporting similar efforts for research and economic development.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelors Degree in graphic design or related field with a minimum of 3+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience with design software, data visualization, and marketing/communications tools
  • Must have excellent communications skills to translate messages to digital representation for a broad range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively and with a proven philosophy of service
  • Demonstrated ability to create research-related graphics and digital content
  • Demonstrated ability to create industry and economic development oriented digital content
