Job Summary:
University Information Technology Services (UITS) delivers technology solutions and services to the President’s Office and the campuses in support of the University of Massachusetts’ mission. We are seeking a motivated Communications Intern to join our IT department. This part-time paid internship is for current UMass students and will provide hands-on experience in developing and executing communication strategies that promote our IT initiatives and foster collaboration across the organization. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual with strong writing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation: Assist in drafting internal communications, including newsletters, emails, and updates regarding IT projects, policies, and initiatives.
Event Coordination: Help organize and promote IT-related events, workshops, and training sessions, including logistics, materials, and communication outreach.
Collaboration: Work closely with IT teams to gather information about projects and initiatives for effective communication.
Metrics Tracking: Assist in tracking and analyzing the effectiveness of communication efforts, providing insights for improvement.
Documentation: Help maintain documentation related to IT communications, ensuring all materials are up to date and accessible.
Training: Work with IT teams to assist in the learning of presentation material software, Canva. Prior knowledge of Canva not required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):
- Current UMass student who is enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study within Communications, Marketing or General Business courses.
- GPA 3.0 or higher.
- Creative, eager to learn, motivated, and willing to take initiative on assigned projects/tasks.
- Reliable and detailed-oriented with a strong ability to multi-task, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be well organized, detailed oriented, and possess good follow-up skills.
- Strong attention to detail and experience in proofreading/editing copy.
