Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Capital Projects for the University of Massachusetts Building Authority or his/her designee, this position is responsible for supporting a group of professional staff in the management of capital projects, the development and organization of project management processes and procedures, construction practices, project budget development, scheduling, tracking and the management of personally assigned projects in direct support of the overarching mission of the Building Authority. This position is at Charles River Campus of UMass Amherst in Newton, MA. Candidates should be aware that when not at Charles River Campus in Newton, MA location expectation is that candidate is at campus construction site. The internship is paid $18.00 per hour and is open to current UMass students at the Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell campuses.
Essential Functions:
- This position is responsible for supporting Capital Projects staff on complex capital project activities with a focus on administration of design and construction contracts.
- Participate in management and communications for all assigned projects.
- Participate during the design and construction of capital projects that may include new construction, renovations, utility installations, site work, and landscaping.
- Assist in the continued development of policies, procedures, and training in order to provide services to all campuses and Building Authority needs.
- Support furniture & equipment phase of project delivery
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):
- University of Massachusetts student currently enrolled in architecture, engineering, construction technology, or a related field.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to the five UMass campuses.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral, written, and graphic communication.
- Demonstrated ability in establishing and maintaining productive relationships with a full range of campus, Authority and external constituents including state and local agencies that reflects a strong commitment to customer service.
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel software/apps.
- Ability to access any portion of a construction/facility site.
Additional Details:
The candidate is expected to contribute up to 40 hours weekly from 8:30 am-5:00 pm. The office is open from 8:30 am-5:00 pm Monday through Friday. This is a Summer 2026 internship, students expecting to graduate in Spring 2026 are not eligible.
