Job Summary
The Regional Public Health Nursing Professional (RPHNP) facilitates the preceptorship and clinical experiences for nursing students in the Western Massachusetts region, support Local Public Health (LPH) staff and Public Health Nurses (PHNs) in the planning and implementation of Foundational Public Health Service (FPHS) Programs, and acts as a subject matter expert in the Local Public Health Nursing Training Program. This role involves developing supportive systems for local public health organizations, leading classroom and clinical training, and providing clinical consultation and region-specific training.
This position has an initial 2-year duration. Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding.
Essential Functions
- Facilitates preceptorships and clinical experiences for nursing students with health departments and other direct-service nursing professionals in their region, as described in the Program’s Scope of Services
- Supports all LPH staff and Local PHNs with the planning and implementation of Foundational Public Health Service (FPHS) Programs.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in the development of the tiers I, II, and III Local Public Health Nursing Training Program in collaboration with the OLRH and other members of the Program.
- Develops systems of support for LPH by meeting with organizations and partners in the assigned region.
- Leads the classroom training and clinical applied practice of the Local Public Health Nursing Training Program in the assigned region.
- Performs at least forty site visits annually to health departments in the assigned region.
- Provides all LPH staff and Local PHNs with clinical consultation as requested following the OLRH Clinical Consultation Policy.
- Supports the development of Local PHNs throughout the assigned region with region specific trainings as needed.
- Delivers the OLRH’s The Profession of Public Health Nursing presentation to BSN students in the assigned region and as assigned by the Public Health Nursing Program Manager.
Other Functions
- Participate in curriculum evaluation and content updates as needed.
- Participates in OLRH Special Topic Webinars to support and train LPH staff as needed.
- Participates in special projects and initiatives assigned by the OLRH in emergent public health crisis.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of work experience as a RN, of which at least five (5) years is Public Health Nurse (PHN) experience at a Massachusetts local, regional, or state health department.
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Typical Office Environment.
- Frequent traveling to various clinical sites within the Western Massachusetts region.
Work Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
