Job Summary:

The University IT Services (UITS) Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team is responsible for developing and managing shared services in the area of data and analytics for the entire UMass university system.  These include:

  • Data services such as the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and related data integrations
  • Reporting, visualizations, and analytics tools for self-service use by university personnel
  • Data analysis and development services for various business lines including development of interactive dashboards and analytics

The Senior Analytics Specialist is a key contributor in the EDA team, providing expertise in data analysis, working with business users and translating business requirements into data solutions, facilitating self-service data development, and development and maintenance of compelling data visualizations and analysis products.  They are experienced in multiple data visualization and analysis technologies and have a track record of delivering data solutions to answer business questions. 

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Gathering business requirements and translating those into data specifications
  • Data subject matter expertise
  • Working with data engineers to develop logical data models optimized for analysis and self-service
  • Design, development, and optimization of data visualizations and interactive dashboards
  • Answering complex data related business questions
  • Facilitating and managing self-service development by campus users
  • Contribution to management of data and analytics platforms and operations, including monitoring and performance analysis

Other Functions:

Additional responsibilities could also include:

  • Development of data integrations and logical data model design
  • Helps with setting long term data and analytics objectives and goals for the enterprise
  • Development of metadata layer for reporting tools
  • Development of advanced analytics content such as AI and Machine Learning content

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Statistics, or business-related field
  • 9+ years in business analysis or technical roles with the last 5 concentrating in delivering data related solutions
  • Experience with at least one Data Analysis tool such as Oracle Business Intelligence and Tableau
  • Demonstrated data visualization and interactive dashboard expertise
  • Strong understanding of SQL
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral
  • Solid interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with people of all levels in both technical and business settings

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • OBIEE, OAC, and/or Tableau experience highly desirable
  • Higher education data experience highly desirable
  • Finance, HR, Student Administration, Advancement or other data experience in Higher Education highly desirable
  • R, Python or other reporting, visualization, and analytics tool experience
  • PeopleSoft experience
  • Data Science training
  • Knowledge of the use of remote resources: video conferencing, electronic signature software, business communications platforms

Additional Details:

Salary up to $120,000.
