Job Summary:

The Academic Affairs and Economic Development (AAED) unit within the University of Massachusetts Office of the president seeks a Data Analyst (Institutional Research) responsible for analyzing institutional data to support a culture of data-informed decision-making. This work will include data analysis and management; designing, administering, and analyzing survey data; creating and analyzing student success metrics, enrollment management trends, academic data, and KPIs; creating data visualizations.

Essential Functions:

Under the direction of the Data Analytics and Insights Manager, the Data Analyst is responsible for the following functions, although other duties and projects may be assigned from time to time:

  • Collecting and reviewing institutional metrics around admissions and enrollment, academic programs, faculty & staff, and alumni
  • Generate statistical analyses to help inform strategic initiatives
  • Help develop online tools and processes that improve operational efficiency
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of all projects so that studies are replicable in the future.
  • Collaborating within AAED and with other President's Office departments to identify data needs
  • Responding to ad hoc requests for data from senior officers, University committees, and other academic and administrative offices in a manner that is accurate, expeditious, and clear.
  • Learning the University's policies, guidelines, and various information technology systems that house data.
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining reports, presentations, and other documents and material
  • Building strong relationships and working collaboratively with campus stakeholders
  • Communicating with supervisors and peers – providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, email, or in-person
  • Participating in appropriate training

Other Functions:

  • Support other projects and initiatives of the President's Office as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree in a research-related field such as statistics, mathematics, social science, behavioral science, and information science or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years of work experience in research methodology, statistical analysis, trending, interpretation of data and findings, and familiarity with data collection and preparation.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau preferred).
  • Experience with large databases and quantitative analytical tools, including SQL and SPSS or similar statistical software.
  • Experience in survey design, development, implementation, and reporting. (Qualtrics preferred)
  • Strong MS Office skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels and to work as a team
  • Strong self-initiative and service orientation; must work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience):

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or government/public sector setting

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work environment. Primarily located at One Beacon Street offices, with regular remote work.

Additional Details:

Salary commensurate with experience up to $70,000.
