   General Summary: 
The HELP Study is an NIH-supported project aimed at improving pain and reducing fall risk among older adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain. The 5-year study will be a randomized clinical trial of mind-body exercise vs. physical exercise intervention delivered in community settings with study measures and assessments conducted at the study clinic at UMASS Boston.  
 
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Project Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the five-year research project. The position is responsible for the implementation of the clinical trial from inception to completion and manages and coordinates study activities.  
 
The Project Manager will manage day-to-day logistics and operational needs of the research project, including recruiting, enrolling and retaining study participants, coordinating data collection activities in the study clinic, coordinate activities of the research team through all phases of the study, identify necessary resources to perform project work, monitor work progress including participant recruitment, transportation, study follow-ups and measurements, report development, and oversee timely completion of each phase of the project. In addition, the Project Manager will be responsible for communicating with relevant staff and students in implementing appropriate project designs and work plans, convene research team meetings, and identify and address problems which may adversely affect performance of project work.
 
Examples of Duties: 
- Overseeing all aspects of study execution, including recruitment and enrollment of study participants
 
- Ensuring compliance with study protocol and overall research objectives
 
- Assist in preparing ethics and IRB documents and overseeing informed consent procedures
 
- Maintaining accurate and complete study records including both paper and electronic study forms, case report forms, consent forms, and other study related documents
 
- Assist in coordinating study meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items
 
- Ensuring the safety of study participants, and managing any study-related adverse events or emergencies
 
- Communicating effectively with study team members, investigators, and other stakeholders
 
- Monitoring study progress and reporting on study status to investigators and other relevant parties
 
- Contributing to study testing and data collection
 
- Contributing to the preparation and submission of manuscript publications and research presentations
 
- Managing study budget and resources, including ordering of supplies and services as needed
 
 
 
Qualifications: 
- Graduate degree with at least 1 year of research project experience, research project management preferred
 
- Will consider candidates with Bachelor’s degree +5 years of related experience
 
- Proficient in use of productivity software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
 
- Experience using data management tools (e.g., RedCap)
 
- Knowledge of federal requirements for the conduct of human studies. Certification in Human Subjects Research required
 
- Outstanding communication skills (both oral and written) with excellent ability to effectively communicate with diverse study participants, community organizations, faculty and staff
 
- Outstanding organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
 
- Ability to travel to off-site locations locally in the Boston area.
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- 
- Graduate degree in health and exercise science-related area
 
- Prior experience working with academic research studies and randomized trials
 
- Academic writing experience
 
 
- Experience working in and/or with academic institutions and federal research grants

This is an exempt union position. This is a grant funded position with a current end date of July 31, 2026, subject to renewal contingent on funding and university needs.
